Due to illness,
disease or trauma, your pet family member may someday
require surgery. While this event may be stressful, for
both of you, at Klima Small Animal Clinic we have a few
basic guidelines that you can follow to make it less
stressful and as complication free as possible.
Klima Small
Animal Clinic Veterinarians will do a pre-checkup
before your pets surgery to determine if any
pre-existing condition are present that may
interfere with the surgical procedure or lead to
post-surgical complications.
Make sure that
all your pets vaccines are up to date.
Klima Small
Animal Clinic Veterinarians may recommend
pre-surgical blood test to screen for disease not
apparent from a physical exam.
It is possible
that your pet will be weak or groggy after the
surgery. Keep him/her as quiet as possible.
Restrain your
pet with a leash or carrier when leaving hospital to
prevent additional injury or trauma.
Limit your
pet's exercise, climbing, jumping or running may
open sutures or cause nausea.
Sutures are
usually removed after 10 days. Check the area around
the incision daily, check for redness, swelling,
drainage or if it feels hot. If you detect any
irritation, contact Klima Small Animal Clinic
immediately.
